36th International Chemistry Olympiad in Kiel

A competition for students supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Arranged by the Leibniz Institute for Science Education at the
University of Kiel in cooperation with the Christian Albrechts University, Kiel.

With kind assistance from the Verband der Chemischen Industrie e.V. (Chemical Industry Association), the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie (Fonds of the Chemistry Industry), the Initiative Chemie im Dialog (Chemistry in Discourse), the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (German Chemical Society) and the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein.

Supporting talents of different nature is an important aim of educational policy of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). Additionally, the BMBF supports the politics of the respective states in the school sector, among others, federal competitions such as “Young Researchers”, and the mathematical- natural science Olympiads.

Verband der Chemischen Industrie e.V. (VCI)
(Chemical Industry Association)

The VCI represents the economic interests of 1600 German chemistry plants when dealing with the political, administrative and science sectors. Ideas and solutions from the chemical industry are needed in many lines of business and are regarded as a motor of progress. For this reason, the VCI supports the IChO in order to encourage young people to develop their interest in chemistry.

Fonds der Chemischen Industrie

The Fonds der Chemischen Industrie is the support program of the VCI for the field of research, for the next generation of recruits and schools. The fonds offers its support in the form of student grants with supportive measures in schools, chemistry departments at universities and creates points of intersection to industry.

“Chemie im Dialog” is an initiative of firms and chemistry federations, carrying out several measures and activities with the aim to develop a better understanding between public and chemical industry.

Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh) promotes chemistry
(German Chemical Society)

The Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker is one of the most distinguished scientific associations in Germany and the largest chemistry society in mainland Europe. The GDCh fosters interest in chemistry and is successful in awakening the interest of young people in chemistry.

Schleswig-Holstein - Promoter of Education

Education, Training, Qualification, Science, research and culture are the core topics of the government of Schleswig-Holstein. Tasks which have been ranked to the Ministry of Education since 1998 under the leadership of Minister Ute Erdsick-Rave, are among, others the intensification of the provision of instruction, quality assurance according to PISA and the further development of third level education in Schleswig-Holstein.
